The Mesos Center: Redefining Weight Management

by Amanda Phillips

Located in Winter Park, Florida, the Mesos Center is a health center that incorporates ancient wisdom with modern medicine to provide programs in weight loss, food sensitivities, celiac disease, and more.

Mesos Center Overview

At the Mesos Center, customized programs designed to treat weight-related issues, food allergies & sensitivities, and celiac disease are available. The center has been located in Winter Park for just over a year, and is staffed by a team of healthcare professionals with years of experience in health and nutrition. The staff on-hand includes medical doctors, physician assistants, and registered dietitians. In additional to specialized programs in weight-loss resistance, food sensitivities, and celiac disease, the Mesos Center also offers nutritional genetic testing to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of related issues.

Weight Loss Resistance Program

The Weight Loss Resistance Program at the Mesos Center is focused on the concept that while eating healthy and exercising are pivotal to weight and overall health, losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight may not always center around simply eating less. Some individuals suffer from underlying health conditions, metabolic disturbances, certain medications, genetics, food sensitivities, and other factors.

The Mesos Center Weight Loss Resistance Program uses clinical diagnostic testing to identify specific issues that could explain why an individual is struggling to lose weight. Once any underlying issues are uncovered, the Mesos Center staff will work with each individual to create a custom weight loss plan that incorporates lifestyle and food preferences.

Food Sensitivities, Intolerance, & Allergies

Certain food sensitivities can cause a number of health problems and other diseases, and often times goes unidentified as the underlying problem for those issues. Although many foods are known as common allergies, virtually any food can lead to problems for some individuals. Food sensitivities and intolerance can cause migraine headaches, joint pain, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, fatigue, chronic diarrhea, and many others.

At the Mesos Center, clinical tests will be used to identify if food sensitivities are causing any of these health problems. If certain foods or food groups are to blame, the staff of the Mesos center will work with each individual to develop a plan for eliminating these foods from the individual's diet, thereby effectively treating the ailments caused by the food.

Celiac Disease Program

In addition to the common symptoms of celiac disease - which include diarrhea, bloating, cramps, and other gastrointestinal issues - celiac disease can cause fatigue, depression, anemia, joint pain, eczema, infertility, and many others. When an individual suspects that he or she may be suffering from celiac disease, the Mesos Center staff uses serological and genetic testing to diagnose the disease.

Those who are diagnosed with celiac disease must eliminate gluten from their diets, which can prove challenging as gluten is found in everything from bread and pasta to certain sauces and candy. The Celiac Disease Program at the Mesos Center offers personal counseling, customized meal plans, grocery store tours, pantry planning, a library of celiac disease reference materials, and more.
